Camp donation refund

Post by sfraser-p40 »

Hi All

We have a girl who gave her camp money as a donation and now wants it refunded. What is the correct way to do this?

Donated to what? Probably the first thing you need to do is to correct the original donation so that it goes into the right category. Once that's done, then we can tackle the second issue.

If this is a typical camp where she was just paying for herself, and it the money went to a sub account of "Other" then it's probably OK to cut a check from that account and refund her.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

To add some specifics, I would refer you to the training lesson Understanding and Using the "Other" Category. There you will read (on slide 25):
If the purpose of the excess funds is identified, and the funds were not used for the intended purpose, you can either:
  • Return the leftover funds to the member by printing a check payable to the member from the applicable “Other” subcategory.
  • Or obtain permission from the member to change the category of the donation from “Other” to a charitable category such as fast offering or humanitarian aid.
A young woman would probably prefer the first option. If you're not familiar with the MLS details for doing that, the very next slide of the lesson covers that procedure.
