Changing Calling Position

#1

Post by cseader-p40 »

This has always been a problem that needs fixing.

We can go into callings and change the Class that someone is called too, but it would be nice (especially if someone is Called as a Primary Worker) where the Primary Presidency can reassign you within the Primary at any time, and maybe they change you to be a Corrister or something in the Primary. I always have to remove the record and recreate. It would be nicer to just be able to change the Position like you can the Class at any time. This would save lots of time if you have lots of changes.

You should be able to just click on the calling or class name, and a window will pop up that allows you to choose a new person for that class/calling without having to delete the entire record and starting over. That's how I've always done it.

The original question deals with changing the calling for a person, not the person for a calling. The idea is that you would leave the person, date sustained, and set apart flag intact for a person, and just change their assignment within an organization.

For the specific example cited, as long as people are called as Primary workers, you can simply change their class assignment. That works fine in MLS right now. But it's a different story if they were a Primary worker and then were assigned to be the chorister. It would be nice to be able to change the calling without having to enter the date sustained and set apart flag again. That indeed cannot currently be done in MLS.

I agree that being able to change an assignment for a primary worker to other assignments other than the class positions identified in the class list in MLS should be easier to do. But the example you give, changing a calling from primary worker to the calling of chorister, is not a change in an assignment within the calling of primary worker. That is a change in callings. As such the doctrine of callings and releases must be followed. The procedure in MLS that requires you to delete a member from a calling and then add the person to another calling with the new date sustained is appropriate in this situation to follow the procedure associated with the doctrine.
