Mission Office Software

While I was on my mission, I developed a database ran program with Microsoft Access that kept track of new missionary training, commitments, weekly key indicators, baptisms, and much more. It works hand-in-hand with MOS and it saved us many hours each months in printing reports. I always wondered why this was not implemented into MOS or CDE. Would the church be interested in this program I made? I sent a blank database version to a few other missions so they could try it out.

How do I get access to it and I'll make sure that the missionary department sees what you are doing.

On the similiar theme, when I was in the Brasil Recife Mission, we recieved an internet connection. This connection allowed me to build a website that interfaced with our Access Databases. This allowed me as the financial secretary to have the missionaries submit petitions for reembersements of extra costs (eg. Approved medications, household items, large travel (high cost bus fare), etc). It also allowed me to quickly create reports that tracked what the missionaries were spending and how we could modify the mission budget to accomidate the missionaries. Also it allowed missionaries to request supplies and order church materials from our website, that would deduct from their allowance, and for them to see what deductions had been made. There was also administrative info, like announcements, weekly number indicator submission, etc that was given straight to the president.

The best part about this was that everyone was able to communicate and provide info to those in need almost instantaniously. (They could only use the website on P-day.) This was a lot better then the 2-3 months delay that it normally took for information to travel to the mission office.

The website was later deactivated at teh request of the area presidency but the files still remain on the mission computers.

You would need to enter in contact with the mission to be able to get a copy of the databases and internet pages, as my copy was lost in a distructive hard drive crash.

While I served in the office on my mission I also had setup a mission site to collect statistical information from zone and district leader. We found this very useful because our mission, as I am sure many others are, was very spread out and the country (Dominican Republic) doesn't have a very reliable postal or phone service which made collecting reports and information in a timely manner very difficult. The mission no longer uses this web-based reporting system as it is not in compliance with church policies, however if it were possible to create a secure web app for collecting and reporting information I am sure it would help many missions throughout the world.
