YouTube Is Now Blocked On Extended Access

#1

Post by ccmichaelson-p40 »

Our Stake and Ward buildings are all set to the extended firewall settings (versus restricted). Until just a week or two ago, YouTube was permitted and our Stake YW Presidency used it extensively during Ward Conferences and such. Additionally, the Church has setup a channel on YouTube.

However, the firewall is now blocking any YouTube videos from playing. Is this going to be a permanent change?

Thanks,
Cameron

You can switch to "General Access" which is the same access level as the Family History centers use, and this level will give you YouTube access. As to whether the change to Extended is permanent, I don't know.

Note that changing the access level needs to go though the Stake Technology Specialist and receive approval from the Stake President.

What videos are you looking for? From what I gather, the YouTube stuff was aimed more at reaching non-members. You may be able to find church videos on the church website. That would not be blocked.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

There's also a few church videos on the Deseret Book web site.

I believe you could also access these videos on momon.org

For the LDS Extended Policy, YouTube is intended to be open. If you go to your Meetinghouse today, you will be able to access YouTube content.

If you do get blocked, please verify that you are not on the Restricted policy that only allows basic access that would not include access to YouTube.

We are definitely on LDS Extended filtering and a few weeks ago I could access YouTube. Because of ccmichaelson's post, I tried again last Sunday and confirmed it is now being blocked.

Apparently, it's not just YouTube. A few minutes ago I received a block notice while trying to access www.microsoft.com, which I've accessed many times before. The reason given was...
Reason: Uncategorized - This category is filtered.

Website Address: http://www.microsoft.com/

Access Level: LDS Extended Access
Hummm... Uncategorized??
Something has definitely changed.

EDIT: Well, the list of newly blocked sites is apparently quite large, including sites like www.adobe.com, www.firefox.com, and many others that were once accessible. The question is, is this a temporary glitch, or a permanent change?

Thanks for the update. It's not the first time we've seen a temporary glitch in the content filtering process.
