What does it do?

Church Account is the primary user account (user name and password) for accessing online Church resources. Church Account was formerly known as LDS Account. This forum is a space to discuss all things related to Church Accounts (registration, account recovery, user experience, vulnerabilities, etc.).

What does it do?

Hi,

I'm new here and in Austalia. I have multiple log ons for Family History and the new system.

I inadvertently signed up for "LDS Account" yesterday and the system knew who I was, but when I sign in, all I get is profile details.

Does the system do anything else or am I limited because I'm in Australia?

I can handle highly technical explanations of what this system does (or will do) if someone could enlighten me.

In the meantime I'll keep using all of the other log on ids that I have.

Check out this LDSTech wiki article for much information on this subject:

https://tech.lds.org/wiki/index.php/Church_Websites

This is actually an article about as many official Church websites as we can think of. It details a lot of info, but most applicable to your question, the authentication systems used are outlined. This will give you an idea of where you can use your new LDSAccount credentials, and this list of sites is growing fast.

The idea behind LDSAccount is that it will be the new, unified credential system for all official LDS websites. You are correct in that you can't do much currently at the actual LDSAccount website, but it is indeed being used on many other LDS sites. For more detailed information about the authentication system, here is a link to an LDSTech main page article announcing the system:

Thanks for that info. It's shed some light upon it now. I can see where it's going and will be good once it's all done.

I'm in Australia, and my account login works on every church application website that I'm aware of, and has done for a good 12 months at least, depending on when your stake president applied for access to LUWS I suppose. I don't think any problems with access would be due to your location.

LDS Account credentials have only been available for the LUWS since February 2009 - at least in the US and Canada anyway.

LUWS in general has only been available for less than that amount of time here, so it has always used lds account credentials since it's been available.
