Stake & Ward Financial Records Handbook

#1

Post by ffrsqpilot »

During our Stake Presidency meeting last Thursday evening, the Stake President handed me a "Deposit Transaction Report". This report is used to balance total 2008 deposits to the 2008 'Annual Tithing Status Reports' for all units within the stake.

The first paragraph of the letter attached to the report states that "detailed instructions regarding this reconciliation process are in Section 6 of the Stake and Ward Financial Records handbook".

I know about the MLS instructions in LDS.org as well as the duties of clerks in the CHOI but neither of these is what the paragraph above aludes to. Is there a Stake and Ward Financial Handbook that stake (and ward) clerks are supposed to have? I have been both a ward clerk and now the stake clerk in our stake and I have never run across this handbook. Anyone know about it?

There was a Financial Records Handbook many years ago. It was a green booklet similar to all the booklets that are for different auxiliaries and organizations that are mostly excerpts from the Church Handbook of Instructions. But it certainly has no references to the way we do things with MLS, so it is almost completely useless. It can no longer be ordered. I'm not sure why the current Deposit Transaction Report refers to it.

But I don't know where else this particular reconciliation process is documented. It seems pretty straightforward, and I've never had any problems with it, so I'm not sure what the "detailed instructions" would need to explain.

Thanks Alan,

I thought perhaps it was a hold over from the MIS/FIS days but even then I can't remember ever seeing this handbook. I concur that this reconciliation should be pretty straight forward but I thought maybe I was missing something - apparently not.
