the Webcast Communicator provided by SLC rocks

We ordered the new Meetinghouse Webcast Communicator through distribution. I tried it last week and this week, and it is quite ingenious. Basically follow the instructions that it comes with and you'll be fine.

Not only is the device itself cool, but the service the SLC set up for it makes terrific use of bandwidth. The orginating meetinghouse broadcasts to SLC, and then from SLC any number of connections can made to receiving computers. So the SLC bares the brunt of the bandwidth. :)

The MHC is based on embedded XP and Windows Media Encoder. I used the same technology on my own laptop to broadcast a stake conference, but I have been in the IT industry for ten years. The MHC makes it simple enough for just about anybody who can get themselves around the internet and/ or an entertainment center to broadcast a meeting.

Good work SLC !
