New FamilySearch uses Google maps to plot places people have lived and what events took place in those areas. This web site is still in Beta testing but Google maps is in the current Beta2 version of the site.

I use Google Picasa all the time to straighten and crop downloaded vital record images. When these images are microfilmed they usually have a lot of black area all around them and often are not straight.
