Internet Use Monitoring Tools

#1

Post by dkcook2-p40 »

In our stake center we have a wireless network that is part of the CCN, which we recently changed to "LDS Access." In another ward in our stake we have a DSL line and are considering putting in a wireless network in the building.

In both cases the Firewall/Websense system is in place and functioning.

In my home setting I use K9 filtering. I love the ability to look at websites that have been accessed, monitor usage, turn off the Internet during certain hours, etc. I feel like I have control over my home wireless network.

My question is : are there any tools available to stake technology specialists or stake presidencies to monitor use in a similar way as I can with K9 (either with the church maintained wireless network, or one that the stake puts in and maintained)?

I've heard of setting up a proxy server, or ZoneCD (NoCAtNet), etc. I would love to see a tool set where we could monitor use in a more proactive/efficient way. The proxy server seems like a lot of maintenance.

Are there other tools that are simple and effective?

Greetings and welcome to the forum! There was a thread a while back that discussed a similar topic HERE. You might see if any of those suggestions will work for you.

The short answer is, it can be done, but it's probably not going to be an easy thing to setup or maintain.

BTW, I agree K9 is a very nice solution for family filtering. :)
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.
