I can confirm that PAF does work in Crossover for the most part. There are a few minor bugs.

On a side note, Its good to see that there is a community of Mac users in the Church.

Yes PAF 5 works under CrossOver

We will be presenting a review of CrossOver (about the same price as Parallels) in the April issue of macCompanion magazine (I own and publish it) but I found this today -

If you have a MacTel and CodeWeaver's CrossOver, PAF works -

For anyone who might be trying to get PAF to work on an X86-based Macintosh under regular Wine (zero cost), if there are PAF-specific issues, the AppDB page for PAF 5 on Wine is http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1706. I'm a volunteer maintainer of that page, but I use Linux exclusively. If someone who uses Macintosh systems wanted to join as another maintainer, I'm sure that would be a good thing. Thanks to Clinton Stimpson's great efforts, PAF 5 now works under Wine on Linux well enough for basically all practical purposes. It'd be great to get it to that point on Mac as well.

It's too bad this doesn't interface with GEDCOM, perhaps we as a community could contact them and let them know we want GEDCOM. The interface is very pleasing, and the price is very resonable.

Nice Find.

PAF 5 (reportedly) runs on X86 Macs with Wine, X11

Post by rmrichesjr »

I was just informed that PAF 5 works fairly well on X86-based Macs using Wine and the X11 compatibility layer Apple provides. I'm told there are some font issues that are unique to the Mac situation, but I don't know how serious they might be. There is some information now (and maybe more in the future) on the Wine AppDB page: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1706

It works in Paralels as well (version 2.1 and 3.0) much rather have a native Mac OS application.

PAF with Darwine instructions

#19

Post by stuporglue-p40 »

I got PAF working on my Intel Mac yesterday using Darwine (free vs. CrossOver) and posted instructions here. I was going to post them in this thread, but it got a bit long.

Another alternative which I use is iFamily for Tiger (and Leopard).

I think their website is http://www.ifamilyfortiger.com

It costs about $30 but seems to be a pretty good app for us Mac people.
