Church Directory
We used to get a CD with all the Church Stakes & Wards with names and phone numbers.
Now that CD is not being made available. Is there any way we can access that information?

That directory has been placed on-line and is now only available to Bishops and Stake Presidents.dgsever wrote:We used to get a CD with all the Church Stakes & Wards with names and phone numbers.

A partial list of wards and stakes that have a unit web site is available at:http://www.lds.org/units/find/0,12831,2311-1,00.html
In addition you can use the site of http://maps.lds.org/ to search for a location of a meetinghouse.

maps.lds.org does one better. It will give you the bishop's name as well as the primary and alternate phone numbers for him. After you've entered the address, click on the ward name and a box opens on the map with the info.Techgy wrote:In addition you can use the site of http://maps.lds.org/ to search for a location of a meetinghouse.
In your case where you don't have an address (most likely), search for the ward by name here, click on the correct ward name to open the ward's homepage, and then on the ward web page under location click on "Map" to open maps.lds.org. Conveniently enough, the box displaying the ward and bishop's information is already open.

The challenge with this approach is that not all church buildings have internet access for accessing maps.lds.org and as a result, are not able to complete the task at church or at all if they don't have internet access at home.
The stake now understands that their wards will have difficulty discovering previous bishops' contact info until the church sends an update CD or the church provides online access to the required information and the stake provides for internet access to the church building.
During recent efforts using the old CD, a large percentage of bishops contacted had already been released.
Once the stake has installed internet access into each building, perhaps they should consider a dual calling as asst stake clerk for each ward clerk in order to 'legally' provide them access to the online church directory.
Is this a resource problem or are ward clerks less trustworthy than stake clerks?
If the stake is tasked with managing who has access to the online church directory, regardless of their calling, why would this be a concern unless it was resource related?

I think the access to the list is setup so that only those in the database can get access to it. The directory only lists Bishops, not his counselors or clerk. The counselors and clerk in a ward do not have access. The directory shows all of the Stake Presidency, Stake Clerk, Stake Exec. Sec., and Stake Patriarch. They can all gain access to the directory.
I think that it makes sense to have a ward clerk have access to the directory so that they can assist the Bishop with the administrative tasks.

One of the reasons for the release of the new Church Directory online is to add role-based access. This means that at some point (I wish I knew a time frame), bishops will be able to give access to their counselors/clerk. The timing of this increased access and the decision to stop mailing CDs was supposed to match up, but unfortunately did not.

The other main use of the COI-Cd is for access to Ward/Stake unit #'s for the transfer of Members records....where is there another accessible Database for Clerks access to the Wards/Stakes unit #'s...??Techgy wrote:That directory has been placed on-line and is now only available to Bishops and Stake Presidents.

Here's a little trick I figured out using the Ward Websites and the new Meetinghouse Locator found at http://maps.lds.org/; see the following post for details on how to get the unit numbers for wards, branches, stakes, etc.:Jncrook wrote:...where is there another accessible Database for Clerks access to the Wards/Stakes unit #'s...??

You first type in the forwarding address for where the members are moving to into this new LDS Maps website. When you know what their new assigned congregation is, you can use the trick found in the above link to get the unit numbers.
Hope this is helpful to you.

If you know the address the member is going to, that's all you need.Jncrook wrote:The other main use of the COI-Cd is for access to Ward/Stake unit #'s for the transfer of Members records.
If you don't know what address the member is going to, how would you know what ward they are going to?
