Stake Leaders assisting with Unit Tithing

#1

Post by wernervg »

Hi there, I am a newly called Stake Clerk

We have a unit that is in limbo awaiting a new Bishopric.
Only a Ward Clerk is currently loaded on the units MLS.

The unit desires to do tithing...

We are trying to load a Stake Presidency member in MLS for the unit as an 'Out of Unit Administrator'.
The Name of the president is not showing when the two signature are required to sign off the tithing.

Is it possible for a Stake Leader to sign off tithing for a unit?

I'm aware that the Stake Audit Committee Chairman can't perform any financial transactions and we are avoiding this scenario.

How does MLS know if an MLS user is allowed to sign off tithing - is this linked to MLS user rights only or also to their calling in LCR?

Any help or advise will be appreciated?

Many thanks

It requires both financial privileges in MLS and being in the proper calling in LCR. Are there no counselors to assist, or has the former bishop been removed from LCR, causing his counselors to disappear as well?

You may need to make the deposits and deal with the computer later.

You might want to contact the Global Service Center for advise. I wonder if this might be an appropriate use for the Acting Ward Leader calling and whether that calling would provide the needed finance rights. But I think you would need the involvement of CHQ to enter that calling if it's appropriate.

From what I can see, every ward in your stake has at least a bishop, one counselor, and a clerk. Hopefully the ward clerk has admin rights in MLS, which would allow him add the bishop or a counselor to help process donations.

You're not going to be able to use a stake leader. You need a member of the bishopric.

If you can't get it sorted out, your next step is to call the service center. No one here will be able to help you.

The Bishop has been released as well as the councillors. Only the Ward Clerk is currently on record and the Stake President has been loaded as acting ward leader. We are going to create try and create an MLS user for the acting ward leader and test this out.

Since MLS users must be linked to MRNs (except for out-of-unit administrators), it is highly unwise to name MLS user accounts after specific callings. Much better to create an MLS user name that is related to the person, not the calling.

You need to call the service center.

Every ward in your stake currently shows a bishop, so your statement that "only the Ward Clerk is currently on record" is not exactly true. Your stake president may have told them that they are released, but Church records do not show that the bishop has been released.

Here are the issues I have right now:
  • The bishop and counselors have been released but the release has not been recorded. As a result, they still have full access to the online tools, which provides extensive access to membership information and, depending on your country, may mean that they still have the ability to authorize disbursements.
  • The software should not let you authorize donations without a member of the bishopric. Unless there is a bug, just adding the acting unit leader in MLS won't solve your problem.
  • The acting unit leader position can only be added by the service center.
Call the service center.

Thank you, we are busy working with the Global Service Center.
