Once the FHC version of LANDesk has been downloaded, you can obtain Symantec Antivirus as well as some other software such as DeepFreeze. It's also the method for obtaining the security certificates that is needed to access the FHC Portal that gives FHCs access to certain on-line sites.
Russell,
Today I was approached by the director of one of our family history centers regarding access to footnote.com from the FHC. She indicated that she had received word that the church has licensed access to this site for FHCs. We do have LANDesk installed on all computers in the center. Assuming that access to footnote.com is granted based on the presence of a security certificate, do such certificates get pushed out through LANDesk from HQ or is some action required at the local level to obtain and load the certificate on each of the FHC computers?

Currently (as of this past week), footnote.com was being blocked by the FHC (PIX) firewall/filter. We will enter a request for the site to be unblocked. Once it is no longer blocked, I guess we'll find out if we have the necessary certificates installed, but if you know the answer to this question, it would be nice to know in advance.

To access the subscription sites in the Family History Center you must go through the FHC Portal. Besides Footnote there are about 5 other subscription sites that you can access through the portal. The portal only works inside the FHC. The FHC Portal is accessed by going to this web site.

There may be other settings that must be made in the LANDisk software to identify the location as a FHC. There are instructions on this page telling how to get help setting up the portal if it does not work.
