Multiple Teachers in class rooms

#1

Post by longc »

HIs there any "Official" direction on how many teachers are required per class room. I.E. can one brother teach a CTR7 class alone?? Or is there a need for a second teacher??

Thanks!!

Yes, a second teacher is required. See the detailed policy in Handbook 2, 11.8.1.

To clarify, per the Handbook, primary classes don't necessarily need to have two teachers. If a man is teaching, they just need to have a second adult present. Teachers in Sunday School or Relief Society or instructors in Elders Quorum or High Priest meetings don't need to have another adult present, because they are teaching adults. Similarly, Young Women and Aaronic Priesthood don't need a second teacher or adult because the teacher is always a woman or man, respectively.

What about youth Sunday school? 12-year-olds etc.

There's no policy requiring a second teacher for youth, that I've seen in the Handbook.

First Presidency's message March 26th, 2018:

"When adults are teaching children or youth in Church settings, at least two responsible adults should be present. The two adults could be two men, two women, or a married couple (see Handbook 2: Administering the Church [2010],11.8.1). Where it may not be practical to have at least two adults in a classroom, leaders should consider combining classes."

I see it in the document referenced at the above link:

It's on page 2, left-hand column, second paragraph (first full paragraph) up from the bottom.
