Using MLS and LDS Maps to create emergency zones

#1

Post by holtsberryf »

I am a Stake Emergency Prep Specialist for The Blue Diamond Stake in Las Vegas, NV.

We have been tasked to create a Stake and Ward emergency response plan. This task comes the Handbook.

One of the tasks is to gather information about members who have special needs.
One of the tasks is to gather information about members who have special training.
One of the tasks is to identify members who have special equipment to be used in time of emergency.
One of the tasks is to divide the ward into zones small enough that zone captains can quickly check on families after an incident to establish their safety and needs.

Does the MLS have the capability to select specific groups, identify their needs and print them out?
Our clerks have found no such capability.
We also need to be able to manipulate the Map, to identify boundries, and distinguish zones.

We are really struggling with the tasks we have been given.

Since this task has been in effect for so long, I am surprised that the MLS does not offer the tools to accomplish it.

Your help is sorely needed.

I too have been struggling with the task of mapping out zones or blocks for our EPR plan.
I've been able to import LDSmaps KMZ file of the ward boundaries into Google maps.
this is really helpful because Google provides tools to create zones and identify block captains,
specials need households etc.
We have not been able to import the ward directory csv geocode into this map though.
I'm hoping to learn if you found a way to import geocodes from MLS.
there are various posts from as recent as Oct. 2016 on how to do this.
However our clerk and i are not seeing any export buttons on MLS.

Doing this with posters and pins would be a nightmare...not to mention our ward is
so transient it would be outdated in 1 month.
please help?

Many of the exports have been taken away. In some cases, we're not told why. In others, we've been told it's for privacy reasons.

In addition, you may want to review the Meetinghouse Technology Policy. Specifically, "4.9.3 The use of MLS data and membership information in third party software is prohibited, whether obtained from within or outside of a meetinghouse."

Depending on how that's interpreted, that can put a crimp in your plan.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Ugh....i understand the policy and it makes sense. Just a shame we cannot use the data for a
good purpose. Entering 825 household addresses manually will be difficult at best.
There must be a way to ensure privacy....Could we not allow LDSmap permissions and tools to the Bishop's only ?
Thank you for your response, sincerely , Jim Evanko San Diego 1st Ward San Diego Stake, California
