Proof of Non-Profit Status

#1

Post by Hilohi »

Our EQ wants to rent a ball park for an activity. The city will charge them a smaller fee it they can prove the we're a non-profit organization. The EQ president thinks we might have to show the city the Church's tax ID number or some type of non-profit number. Does anyone know how we can prove to the city that we're a non-profit organization?

The IRS has an online database that lists non-profit corporations. Your state may also have a form or method to use. Ask them exactly what it is they need for evidence.

Sometimes a letter from the bishop on ward letterhead works. Other places need a completed form. It will probably be the same method your state uses to allow organizations to purchase items tax-free. Every state is different.

I would check with your Stake Clerk. He may the information you need.

Try this URL for the IRS Exempt Organization check.

https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/pub78Searc ... ame=Search

If this does not satisfy the city. The Stake Clerk can contact the Church Tax Dept and they should be able to supply documentation.
