Deep link problem in GL V.4

#1

Post by djdinut1 »

Deep links in GL v.4 are not working properly. This deep link does not take me to vs. 17 of D&C 1 but the beginning of the Section 1 only: gospellibrary://content/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/20?lang=eng. I've tested this in different scripture books and the same misbehavior results. Why has the deep link function been changed?

The link you posted is to the full chapter:
gospellibrary://content/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/20?lang=eng

To link to the specific verse, you can either do this (classic link format):
gospellibrary://content/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/20.17?lang=eng#16

Or this (newer link format):
gospellibrary://content/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/20?verse=17&lang=eng#p17

Unfortunately, there are a couple of bugs currently with the newer link format:
– In Gospel Library for iOS, deep links to specific verses aren't working consistently because of asynchronous timing issues (it will always go to the chapter, but not always to the verse).
– In Gospel Library for Android, everything after the "&" is getting ignored, so for the latter link, "&lang=eng" gets ignored, so it will go to D&C 20:17 in your default language (the language of your device), and the "#p17" will also get ignored, so it doesn't jump down to the correct verse.

Thank you for your quick reply. Will the GL app ever have the capability of providing a quick deep link without the current wasteful (sends to my iphone's photos app where I have to delete it later) and time-consuming screenshot? Why not provide a way in the menu screen along with copy, etc.?

You shouldn't have to take a screenshot to get a deep link URL. If you share (for example via email) it will include a link (currently to the full chapter, since verse linking isn't working completely).

I use it he deep links in creating lesson outlines in my iPhone Notes app. This allows me to use the outline while presenting lesson and jump into the GL app to read a scripture in context and then jump back to the Notes app to continue with the lesson. Being able to get a deep lesson no quickly while preparing my lesson outline is very important. Currently, I must take a screenshot, act as if I want to send a feedback email message, copy the link, and then delete the message. I also must eventually delete the photo created in the Photos app created by the screenshot. This is very cumbersome and unnecessary. Why not just have a deep link icon in the menu bar?

Any idea when the deep links will be working again so as to be able to link to specific verses? I'm functionally crippled with Sunday School lessons presently.
