Printing Wirelessly to Xerox WorkCentre 3615
I'm a new stake tech specialist and I don't have much network experience. A ward in my stake would like to be able to print wirelessly from their ipads, mobile phones and other devices to their Xerox 3615 WorkCentre. My question is, would the printer require the installation of the separate wireless networking adapter from Xerox (p/n: 097S04409) in order to do this, or is there some other way for the devices to find the printer through the existing WLAN in the building? (I assume the printer is connected to the network with an ethernet cable, but I haven't verified that.) Thanks for any suggestions or information!

I'd think as long as the printer is directly connected to the network, it should be possible.

Russellhltn is correct. As long as it is directly or wireless connected to the network, you can print to it. The users will need to install a printer app so that they can print to it. I forget this, but I know at some point that the church was determining who was using the copier by keeping track of how many pages were printed. In my stake, we do not connect any unit printer to the network. We only did the stake's one.
So I could see that this could get out of hand on the amount of printing because as people find out that it is available they could use it for anything they want. So I would really think about this and do you really want to open that can of worms?

Before moving forward on this, you'll probably want to pass the request by your Physical Facility Representative (PFR) on the high council and ask him to run it by your stake president.davew833 wrote:A ward in my stake would like to be able to print wirelessly from their ipads, mobile phones and other devices to their Xerox 3615 WorkCentre.
Of the 3 buildings in our stake, none of them have wired LAN available in their Material Centers, so if this was something my SP desired, it would have to be done wirelessly.davew833 wrote:My question is, would the printer require the installation of the separate wireless networking adapter from Xerox (p/n: 097S04409) in order to do this...
There are many reasons I would try to discourage the idea for members to wirelessly print to a common printer/copier. I can envision someone sending over a print job just after the lavender paper was put in for a RS flyer. Or starting a print job, THEN finding out the door was locked. With that said, I HAVE setup wireless printing for bishops and clerks to use, and even one for my stake president, but none of those were for the general membership to use.
As I mentioned, this is a decision the PFR and/or SP should be involved in and I would follow their instructions on the matter rather than act upon the request of a few members.

I have wirelessly printed documents while sitting in the stake president's office only to discover that the stake finance clerk was trying to print checks at the same time.
Oops.
Oops.

I don't see why the PFR is involved, as long as the Stake President approves this (Unless you need to get ports dropped) I have found that setting this up and including scan-to-email functionality has been really helpful to members.

I printed from the clerk computer with checks in the printer - WAY more times this happens than someone accidentally prints from a meeting over a check.

If the SP approves it, I'm good. It's just I prefer to pass non-urgent requests to the SP through the PFR.johnshaw wrote:I don't see why the PFR is involved, as long as the Stake President approves this...
