Change baptism to a convert baptism

#1

Post by kbhuffaker »

Back on the 5th of Nov. we had a baptism where the youth was just over 8 years old. The records were recorded normally as a ward baptism. The mission president wants the baptism changed to a convert baptism. Is there a way that this record can simply be changed to a convert baptism? If so please let me know how this can be done and what I need to do. If not, please tell me what needs to be done for this baptism to be recorded as a convert baptism. Thanks.

I'm surprised you were able to record it. Usually once the child reaches 9 years old, you can't record it and it has to be recorded by the mission.

The OP mentioned 8 years old. So I imagine the ward baptism would be feasible?

What exactly is meant by "just over"? Handbook 1: 16.3 is pretty clear. While it encourages members of record to get baptized as soon after their 8th birthday as possible, the mission doesn't get involved until the child has reached their 9th birthday by the time of baptism, or if nether parent is a member.

I don't know as there's any way to "change" a baptism. I've never heard of it. Even if there was, I don't see the point in doing so. I don't think It changes how the member is handled, nor or do I see a benefit for the member. From other posts here, I'd be surprised if you could record this baptism if the child was 9 at the baptism date.

Since this sounds like it may be an overreach by the mission president, you may want to bring the stake clerk in on this discussion. He is responsible for training ward clerks, so he's the starting point for any big questions. He's also a good avenue for escalating questions to the stake president as needed.

It looks like the child was nine years old when the baptism was performed. LCR prompts with a message that the baptism should be recorded by the mission, but will allow the clerk to record the baptism.

I am assuming that the issue is that the convert doesn't show up on the mission verification report. If that is the case, fixing this will require that you contact the Global Service Center.

Thank you all for your comments. After looking closer at the current age of the person in question I missed took her age. She is actually 10 years old now. Her birthday is Sept 21 so she would have been 10 years old when she was baptized. So, from the comments I need to contact the Global Service Center. Can you give me the number for the Global Service Center. Thanks.
