Adding unbaptized children over the age of 8 to part member family

#1

Post by HCreutz »

The Husband is a member and his children are on the records of the church one of them is over the age of 8. His new wife has 2 children that are not on the records of the church both are over the age of 8 and are unbaptized.
We would like to have the family record represent all the children in the family.
Is this possible?
What is the proper way to do it if so?

Thanks

You might call local unit support, but as far as I know, the only way to add them is to baptize them. If they've been legally adopted, they can be added to the parent's records, but that's not going to get you what you want.

The goal of this request is to provide the young men's leadership the names of the young men that are part of this family. One side of this family has all the children on the records of the church the other side the children are not. The request is to have the young men's organization have some responsibility to fellowship these children. While adding there records is not required for this to take place the desire of the parent is to have this happen.
Any additional advice is appreciated.

There is definitely no way for the local unit to create records for non-member children 8 or over. As russellhltn indicated you could contact local unit support and see if they will do it but we've never heard of an instance where that has happened.

It used to be possible to create non-member records for non-member family members but that ability was removed in the last couple years. We were told this was done for privacy reasons but we were not given a detailed reason.

But almost surely you'll have to make do without records (at least until and unless they get baptized).

It may be worth carefully exploring the objections to getting baptized. I think some investigators want the "beyond a shadow of a doubt" confirmation before preceding, but faith doesn't work like that.

As for the YM organization, I'd hope they'd be tracking people as individuals and use the information as a tool and not as a crutch. There are a lot of things that are not recorded in the membership records, such as individual interests. It would certainly be nice to have the names on the list, but I don't see it as required.
