Does the satellite network support IP?

#1

Post by lionelwalters »

We're having a fireside in Sydney with Elder Bednar on Sunday, and it's being broadcast (for the first time here) from Sydney to all the Stake Centres in Australia. Apparently provision has been made for Q&A at the end, which, we are told, will include all of the remote stakes using a phone connection.

That's a long-winded way to a very simple question. Does the satellite system support IP, and at what kind of speed/bandwidth?

It's receive only.

So it can't be running TCP. And it seems to me that IP would be too much overhead for one-way transmission. The receivers are addressable. But I kinda doubt that it's IP.

The Wegener receivers do support IP tunneled through DDB MPE at up to 10Mbps (or 15Mbps with no video), but of course, as you say, that's downlink only. Would be a mighty efficient way to push out MLS updates though! :-)
