FM mechanics and webcast permission

#1

Post by bookofnorman »

I am an fm mechanic in GA. Our stake webcasts and occasionally has issues that i need to resolve.

Why do mechanics not have permissions to create a webcast. I few wires had come lose in the cabinet and in order to test it i had to call the STS several times at work to create a webcast.

I don't understand why i can not do it myself

That would work for the stake your membership records are in - but I suspect you cover more than one stake. I'm not sure what happens if you try to originate a broadcast using equipment from a different stake.

I should not have to have another calling to do my job anyway. Who actually sets these permissions?

Generally the systems are developed under the direction of the Priesthood Department. Rannthal is a church employee who regularly monitors this section, but you might have more influence to discuss this with your supervisor since it affects your job. That's probably the best way to officially raise the issue.

The permissions are set according to your calling in your stake and sometimes area. The FM group is not part of a calling in a stake, therefore it does not have rights.
However, we have made amends for certain groups to have STS-like rights. These groups are called Custom Organizations. The FM group may have one of these custom orgs. I would check with your supervisor to see if one exists. If it does, then you would just need to be added to the Custom Org. If it doesn't, suggest it to your supervisor and ask him to get a hold of the webcasting product manager so he can create a custom org for you. If you need more info or help, please email me and I'll see if I can help you further.
