Philadelphia Temple Dedication

#1

Post by Lnanaa »

Hi, the Philadelphia Temple Dedication will be broadcast at my Stake Center on September 18th. I am Deaf and asked my Bishop for closed captions during the Dedication. He has been asking around but not sure how to set that up. How do we request Closed Captions for the dedication?

Thanks,
Lauren

There really is nothing special to set up. If the broadcast will be closed captioned, the only decision for the stake to make is whether they will show the closed captions on the main screen or set up a television on the side that has captioning. Display of closed captioning is a setting on the projector (if capable) or the television (most can do it).

You might ask your bishop to speak with the stake technology specialist or stake presidency about it. We would probably put a television on the side of the chapel in front and reserve space for those needing captioning on the first row or two as needed.

Most are, but it would be good to refer to the official notice to make sure it's mentioned. The stake president would have gotten the notice.

Thank you. I just texted my Bishop with the information you gave me and they were able to set up closed captions for other broadcasts. The Dedication is new for us as this is the first temple in Pennsylvania. :)

It may be a challenge to provide CC for an unscripted live broadcast event, because someone must be typing quickly to keep up with the speakers. ASL is much easier, but many deaf folks don't know ASL. I would expect CC to be added to a broadcast of a previously recorded broadcast, but live events are challenging. Let's hope they find a fast typist.

Which is why I suggested that someone check the broadcast information. Most broadcasts have CC, but I have seen a few without them.

If it's not listed in the broadcast info, then it's time to call SLC to let them know there is a need.

Currently closed captioning is available for the cultural celebration but not the temple dedication.
