Updating baptism info on family search

#1

Post by kaleocurtis »

I'm the ward clerk for my ward and a member is having difficulty doing family history work. In family search her husband and mother-in-law (who are both deceased) do not so up as baptized, but both were baptized prior to their deaths. She has the baptism certificate of her mother-in-law, but only has the date of her husbands baptism. How does she go about updating their baptism info?

One of two things has happened: Either their death was never recorded on their membership record, or there is a "duplicate person" based on the diseased membership record that they need to combine with.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Also note that a member record will not appear in the Family Search database for ordinance data or ordinance work until a year after the date of death.

There's another possibility, and that is that the membership record is not attached to their person record in Family Tree. See details about this in the FamilySearch Help Center article Ordinances are missing in Family Tree (Not displaying). (Note that you must be a Church member, signed in to FamilySearch.org, to view this article.)
