Who can schedule outside of their own building?

#1

Post by widdisonkl »

Hi everyone. I've been reading dozens of posts and I'm still a bit unclear on how broad the powers are for Calendar Editors. For example, can they schedule events only in the buildings they are assigned, or can they schedule events (and reserve rooms) in other buildings in the Stake? For example, can the Relief Society President of a Ward that meets in Building #1 go into the calendar and schedule an event in Building #2?

As far as I know, each editor has the ability to schedule any building/room in their stake.

Of course there's a couple of practical limitations on that: The first is they would have to make arrangements to have the building open (if it's not normally open). And even if it's scheduled, that doesn't means that someone won't point it out and complain if someone is overstepping their boundaries.

Since generally, calendar editors are also leaders, they generally behave themselves.

But if there are problems, someone designated as a Building Scheduler in the calendar system can restrict what units can schedule what buildings by time block. So to use your example. Building #2 may be restricted to Unit B on Wednesday nights.

We have an outdoor pavilion at one meetinghouse in our stake that anyone can reserve by choosing it as the location for their event. However, practical limitations get in the way. For example, if I wanted to hold an event at the pavilion, I would probably want someone there with a key to the meetinghouse so folks could use the restrooms. The other problem is that I know the leaders in that ward don't even use the calendar to schedule events in their own meetinghouse, much less the pavilion. So even if the calendar allowed me to schedule an event at that location, there is no guarantee it would not conflict with a local ward event.
