Quarterly report vs Family History Key Indicators report

#1

Post by teuscher »

Does anyone have an explanation for the apparent discrepancy between the temple submission numbers on the Quarterly Report and the Family History Key Indicator Report?

Line 9 of the Quarterly Report is "Adults and youth who submitted ancestor names for temple ordinances"
The first line of the Family History Key Indicator Report is "Adult plus Youth"

But the numbers (at least for our stake) don't match up. Both reports contain the following numbers:
  • Actual submitters
    Potential submitters
    % submitters (Actual/Potential)
In the Family History Key Indicator Report, we have a value of 7% for the past 12-18 months. Yet our Quarterly Report has 2-3% for that same period. The numbers for "Potential submitters" is similar between the two reports, but the number of actual submitters is very different. Does anyone have an explanation for why? My Stake President would love to know the answer.

Thanks in advance!

There has been quite a discussion here that may shed some light on your question.

There's a very simple explanation. Both reports are for unique submitters, but cover different time periods. What is a unique submitter for a quarter may (or may not) be a duplicate submitter over a 12 month period. So, the 12 month will likely fall short of 4 times the quarterly. And unless all the folks who do summit do it quarterly, then the 12 month will be higher than the quarterly.

So, for example. To keep the math simple, let's assume Potential Submitters is 100. So each submitter is 1%.
Member A submits every quarter.
Member B submits in Q1.
Member C and D submits in Q2.
Member E submits in Q3.
Member F and G submits in Q4.

Your stats will appear as:
Q1 2%,
Q2 3%,
Q3 2%
Q4 3%
12 month: 7%

Thanks for the explanations. This makes more sense now. Neither report clearly defines the values being calculated, so it is difficult for leaders to interpret the meaning of the numbers and how to put plans in place to use the numbers to help bring people to Christ.

As a summary, the Quarterly report gives the number of unique submitters from the ward/stake during the quarter. The Family History Key Indicator report gives the number of unique submitters from the ward/stake during the past 12 months. This explains the differences observed in the numbers.

Thank you @lajackson and @russellhltn for the information and assistance. It is much appreciated.
