windows 10 update - MLS doesn't work :(

#1

Post by ChrisJohnson1974 »

Our computer in the clerks office was updated to windows 10 this week.
So the first thing I tried after it was installed was starting the MLS.

Instead of starting normally I got an error that said it was only for Windows 7 and XP. And it then gave me the option to do nothing or cancel.

How do I update the MLS to a newer version?
So basically, as is, our MLS doesn't work.

Please advise.

Thanks

Chris J.

Was the upgrade done via the church authorized process, or was this done via the Microsoft process?

By the church authorized process. I did exactly as I was told, when I was told: Leave the computer on.

Great. I'd call Local Unit Support. It might be fixable by re-installing MLS, but I think they should be aware of the problem.

In another thread, it was suggested to run MLS in Windows 7 compatible mode. Let us know if you need assistance doing this.

Actually that is what I did. But that is such a hack though. I was expecting an update to the MLS.

Yeah, when MLS launches it detects what OS it's running on and aborts if the OS isn't found in its very short white list of approved OS's. Seems logical that they would include Windows 10 in that list before rolling it out to all the admin PC's, but it looks like that didn't happen.

Well, that and now all our print drivers don't work. :) Can't even print to PDF right now.
But one thing per day huh?
I'm sure that can be resolved.

Have a good day.

The answer I got from Support was to run MLS in Windows7 compatibility mode.
and it worked for me.

Make sure MLS is closed
1. Right-Click the MLS icon, goto "Properties"
2. Select the "Compatibility" tab
3. Check the box by "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
3-a in the dropdown box select "Windows 7"
3-b Select OK
MLS should now run just fine in Windows 10

About half of my Stake computers needed this manual fix, and half just worked after the upgrade without it.
This Should be on the FAQ page!

It might be worth checking the MLS version to make sure it's current.
