Gospel Library is primarily a mobile application, and so it was available only for mobile operating systems such as iOS (Apple) and Android. With the Windows 8, Microsoft created a platform which can be used on mobile devices as well as desktop/laptop systems. Development of Gospel Library for Windows 8 was motivated by the Windows 8 mobile devices, but has the nice side-benefit that it can be used on desktop/laptop systems as well. However, Windows 7 does not have that dual purpose, and so Gospel Library is not available for Windows 7 (or any other earlier versions of Windows, or Mac OS, or Linux, or other desktop operating systems).

If your laptop can run Windows 10 when it's released at the end of July, upgrading to 10 will make GL available on the laptop. Because like Windows 8, Windows 10 is the same on mobile and desktop (laptop) machines.

The "windows 8.1 and earlier" download is fake. It just redirects you to Micro$oft and tells you to upgrade to Windows 10 !
Why can't the materials be available without an "APP". Has "coolness" become more important than function ?

I believe all the information is available on-line.

If you want to go other routes, you can do one of the following:
1) Use an emulator. I use the Genymotion emulator to make my Android Gospel Library and Scripture Mastery app training videos - and everything works as it does on my Android devices. You have to side load the apps or find a way to get the Play Store on it (sounded like a royal pain, so I never bothered). This is the only emulator I found that was any good on Windows 7. In theory there are others, but I couldn't get them working (or if I could, they didn't have the store or side-loading - just their built-in apps, or they insisted I download one of their stupid games *every day*!).

(I tried but couldn't find an iPad/iPhone emulator that would let me do this on Windows 7.)

2) There's a way to get Android apps to run in Chrome (google's web browser). It's been mentioned in these groups before. Try searching for Arc Welder (if I remember right). I've never tried it, but the posts indicate it works.

Both of these methods are hacks, but they work.

I'm wondering the same thing. So far I have downloaded for XP and Vista. I plan to install Windows 7 in place of Vista. My new laptop has Windows 7 as well. Windows 10 isn't an option for me for many reasons. Nothing like having Microsoft dictate to it users what they want you to use as an OS. I loved XP. Sorry. There needs to be a spot on LDS.ORG for a desktop download. Please. Not everyone is a computer scientist.

The explanation has been posted in a previous post in this thread.

A satisfactory solution is to provide a desktop version of the gospel library for all operating systems. Along with a desktop version of odd tools for good measure. I feel there's ample need, and equally ample resources available to make it happen. IMHO.

Considering that the Windows effort is a completely voluntary, with no one getting paid, I'm not so sure. I'm sure the church has the resources to get it done, but it's clear that those who make the financial decisions are only focusing on apps for the two front-runner mobile systems.

The web resources are there for all platforms.
