What to do when a new bishopric is called?
A new bishopric was called in my ward today. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out everything that the clerk (me) needs to do. I've already set up user ID and passwords as well as the new signature card. I've also signed out keys to each of the new bishopric members.
We have a lot of tithing envelopes and stationary envelopes with the old bishops name and address on them. Is it better to order new ones or print out labels to correct the old ones?
What else do I need to do?

You did record the callings in LCR?

The stake has to take care of the procedure that will cause the bishop to have the correct calling in the various online systems. But you need to specify the callings for the counselors (and any other related callings that may have changed, such as executive secretary) in LCR.Mr_Dove wrote:What else do I need to do?
You need to fill out a new signature card, get all the new signatures, and submit it according to the instructions on the card.
Make sure that the printed handbooks are transferred.

Actually the ward clerk, in addition to the stake leaders, can change the bishop now in LCR.aebrown wrote:The stake has to take care of the procedure that will cause the bishop to have the correct calling in the various online systems.Mr_Dove wrote:What else do I need to do?

Thanks for the update. My experience with updating bishop callings predates LCR, so that's good to know.jonesrk wrote:Actually the ward clerk, in addition to the stake leaders, can change the bishop now in LCR.aebrown wrote:The stake has to take care of the procedure that will cause the bishop to have the correct calling in the various online systems.Mr_Dove wrote:What else do I need to do?

The next release of LCR will only allow the stake to record the change of a bishop.jonesrk wrote:Actually the ward clerk, in addition to the stake leaders, can change the bishop now in LCR.aebrown wrote:The stake has to take care of the procedure that will cause the bishop to have the correct calling in the various online systems.Mr_Dove wrote:What else do I need to do?

Whew! Quick, before the bishops find out they can undo their callings . . . [grin]scgallafent wrote:The next release of LCR will only allow the stake to record the change of a bishop.jonesrk wrote:Actually the ward clerk, in addition to the stake leaders, can change the bishop now in LCR.

Re: What to do when a new bishopric is called?
I spent about 2 hours looking for the location in LCR to update a newly called bishop today. The location is not intuitive, and it somewhat difficult to find. I'm adding comments here to help other Stake Clerks that may be struggling with the change. (Hopefully you can find this in the forum instead of hunting through all the links on each page until you stumble upon the right solution like I did.)
First, log into LCR and use the menu to go to Organization >> Ward Leadership
When the page loads, select the Ward for which you want to change the bishop. A page with ward leadership callings will show up ... but there is no Edit button to change the Bishop calling (Note to developers: It should be on this page!).
To the right of the ward name there is a small blue icon that looks like an organization chart . Click on that icon, which is a link to the Ward Organization page.
When the page loads, select the Bishopric. A page with the Bishopric members will show up ... and the Edit button will appear on the far right of the row with the Bishop.
Click the Edit button to make the change.
Keywords: edit bishop, change bishop, change calling bishop, change bishop's calling, release bishop

Note from developer: It is on this page in the next version of LCR.teuscher wrote:I spent about 2 hours looking for the location in LCR to update a newly called bishop today. Re: What to do when a new bishopric is called?
I am a stake clerk and tried to use this feature for the first time today. I clicked on edit next to the name of the bishop and it brought up a page with the contact information for the current bishop. I then clicked on the release button and tried to save the change, but it gave me a message that said, "This position cannot be vacant." However, it never gave me an option to enter the name of the new bishop. Am I missing a step somewhere, or is there an issue with LCR that needs to be fixed?
