arpitman and rannthal,
Can you tell me if https://portal.ldswebcast.org/ is used to allow people who can't make it to stake conference, regional conference, ward conference, etc. to view the conference? If not, can you tell me how that might be possible?
Thank you!

Re: stake conference, regional conference, ward conference, etc. for shut-ins?
My information is a couple of years old (so it may not be accurate anymore) but I was told there is a limit to the number of places that can receive a given stake conference feed. So allowing too many shut-ins to receive the stream would be a problem.

[Moderator note: This question was split off of the previous discussion because it represented a new topic.]
First of all, webcasting is generally only used for stake conferences. Strictly under the direction of the stake president, the webcast URL may be issued to individuals who otherwise could not attend in person. The stake technology specialist (or person scheduling the broadcast) will need to know in advance how many extra viewers there will be so they can plan accordingly.

Re: Can others view conference?
Details:
- It's only for Stake Conferences - not Ward Conferences nor Sacrament meetings.
- Who may receive it is under the direction of the presiding authority. (The visiting authority, otherwise the stake president)
- The number of receiving locations maxes out at 50. In practical terms, that pretty much limits its use to shut-ins and others in similar situations.
- Exceeding that limit degrades the broadcast for all users - including other buildings.

Re: Can others view conference?
What has been previously stated is correct.
There is a limited number of viewers that can watch the broadcast, pending on the size of the server selected when the event was scheduled. (Please do not select a larger server then is needed. The size of the server does not have any effect of the quality of the broadcast.)
If that limit number is exceeded, then the server is stressed and may degrade the broadcast and will cause others to be locked out from viewing. (Note: If one is already viewing the broadcast they will not be kicked out to make space for others. Its first come first served and if you are late to the party.....)
The process to allow those who the presiding authority deems acceptable is as follows:
1. Have them go to portal.ldswebcast.org and login with their ldsaccount.
2. A broadcast/event code is issued for every broadcast scheduled. This can be found on the event details page. Have them enter in this code in the "Find a Broadcast" area and click Find.
3. This will display the appropriate event. If the event has started, there will be links for the viewer to use to get the player to watch the event. If the event has not started, those links will not be there.
