Baby died at birth and membership record

#1

Post by radley_barker »

I have a member that would like a baby that died at birth prior to receiving a baby blessing to have a record created for this infant and tied to her membership record. Is this possible and if so how is this done in MLS?

There is no individual membership record for someone who has died - at least none that would show up in MLS. MLS is for the living.

But I think you can add the child to the parent's record. If my test install is accurate: Pull up the individual record. Go to the children section on the left side. In the upper right, there's a blue "Add Child" link. Choose "Add a child to this member's record". Fill in the information.

But if the child was actually born, then it seems better to create a membership record for a child of record, and then process the death of that member. That will reflect more accurately what happened. Doing that will have the same effect as what you suggested (the child will appear in the Children section for both the father's and mother's records). But it will also trigger the creation of a record in FamilySearch, which is a desirable thing.

In that case, I'd agree.
