Ward Historian vs History Specialist

#1

Post by xigiff »

Ward Historian vs History Specialist, is there a difference? I am at the Stake Level and working to get information out to those in the wards on how our stake would like to assemble these over the next few months. With that, I am reaching out to the wards, and finding some have callings called Ward Historian, and some have History Specialists.

The standard name of the calling in the Church systems is "History Specialist." "Ward Historian" would be a custom calling created by the clerk in a ward. However, my guess is that their assigned responsibilities would be similar or the same.

If you have access to CDOL, see which ones are custom callings (orange text) and which are standard callings.

Also, on Leader and Clerk Resources – custom callings have an asterisk to the right of the calling name in Callings by Organization.

This is an old post and it seems to me that the slight difference is ministering in a higher and holier way using the history of the local congregations. This also has more of a focus for home centered and church supported system in bringing more people unto Christ through parables and history ( story telling). Historian is focused on gathering the history and the History Specialist is focused on teaching others through teaching in the Saviors way in gathering and recording their own history as they come closer to Christ.

Not so. History Specialist is described in 33.7.1 of the General Handbook. It is clearly focused on the history of the ward.

You're describing something closer to Ward Temple and Family History Consultants (25.2.4)
