Stake Conference Regional Broadcast 11-8-2015

#1

Post by jonesjt35 »

We had audio problems during the first part of our Regional Conference today and didn't hear the first couple of Speakers. We are part of the New Mexico, Farmington mission. Is there anyway to watch a re-broadcast or read the talks that were given during this regional broadcast on 11-8-2015? The name of the first speaker was Lynn G Robbins. Any Information would be great. We just want to know if it is possible to watch the parts that we didn't get to hear. Thanks

It's rare (but not unheard of) for talks given in regional conferences to be published. I happened to be able to attend this particular conference, even though I don't live in that area. The talk by Elder Robbins was about the virtue of simplicity (expanding on some thoughts he shared in the June 2003 Ensign article The Cost of Riches); if yesterday's talk does get published, I would highly recommend it.

We have been getting lots of questions if there is a way together a transcript of these talks. It seems a shame toga day such a powerful talk not be available for review by the members.

As aebrown said in the post just before yours, it's rare (but not unheard of) for talks given in regional conferences to be published. If they are not, your only option is to speak with those who attended the conference and took good notes, and to reference the conference talk aebrown mentioned in this post.

Although many stakes were involved, this was a stake conference, and stake conference talks are almost never published.

I took notes at this broadcast, and can share them with you. This is all straight from the speaker, without my personal impressions or thoughts, until the very end:

Lynn G. Robbins--
We live in a complex world that is always growing more complex, while getting easier work-wise.
Through simplicity we receive joy and the best things in life; see talk "Good Better Best." Oct. 2007 Conf.

All these things are great bcz of their simplicity:
Articles of Faith
Pres. Hinckley's counsel for new members needing a friend, a calling & (sorry--forgot the last one!)
Procs. of Family and of Living Christ
Gettysburg Address
Jesus' teachings

Simplifying life begins at home.. We should never be too busy for our family. We suffer from a self-imposed slavery of things, of possessions. We own too much. We have to spend so much time caring for and storing our stuff that it begins to own us. We keep genealogies of junk. The antonym of complexity is contentment.

We need to own fewer things, because we would have less to distract us. Not advocating poverty, but to "lay aside things of this world and seek for things of a better."
Need to own fewer credit cards--get rid of some.
Simplify by de-cluttering our homes and lives.
Get rid of 1/3 of our clothes in our closets.
Don't be a hoarder.. Declutter.
Simplify for freedom and less stress.
Remove some apps from our phones, and don't constantly seek to add new ones without getting rid of others.
Which TV program will we sacrifice to which we are addicted?
If our house is bigger than we actually need, counseled to sell it and get a smaller house with smaller mortgage.

Linds S. Reeves--
Repent now.
Alma's son Corianton strayed while serving as a missionary with his father and others. Sis Reeves studied to see if there is any update on if he stayed true after repenting. In the account describing Moroni the General it says he was, "like unto all the sons of Alma" so he did stay true.
Satan deceives men to thinking it's selfish to repent and cause their wives and children pain. It's more selfish to avoid repentance, bcz if the man repents, that is where the family will receive lasting joy. Much worse to find out after this life when the man can't repent that the husband or father sinned and was dishonest about it.

Time has come to repent now, because we need to be right with God now. Times are coming when we will HAVE to be right with God at that moment--safety and peace will depend on it.
Don't wait to quit behaviors that prohibit the Spirit and separate us from God and personal revelation.
(This was actually the very best and most incredible "repent now" talk I've ever heard--I hope they do print this!)

Elder Gorbbridge
People who see miracles do not stay converted because of the miracles. Great signs and wonders do not sustain.
Lord asked Peter, "Will ye also go away?"
We have to decide, "Will we go away? Will we be here when He comes again, or will we quit? If we quit, where will we go?"
Wars, rumors of wars, famine--one Last Days sign is repeated three times in New Testament, "Many shall come in Jesus' name, false prophets who will show great signs and wonders.."
We live in a day of deception. False spirits are abounding in the world, deceiving the world.
We were warned not to be deceived.
Many within the church trying to deceive, or are deceived themselves.
Four questions we need to ask:
1-Is there a God, and is He my Father?
2-Is Jesus Christ the Son of God?
3-Was/is Joseph Smith a Prophet of God?
4-Is the LDS Church the Kingdom of God?

How can we know true signs and doctrine?
Only by the Divine Method--God will tell us.
Must have affirmative proof, not just the disproving of attacks and allegations.
Heavenly Father will guide us through the prophets, and will do so through to the end.
"The Kingdom of God shall stand forever. Will you?"

Dallin H. Oaks

Faith in Jesus Christ prepares us for whatever life brings.
We need to commit to priorities that direct us, during these times we can't control. It gives "constancy, direction, peace."
Putting Heavenly Father first is what makes whatever happen to us ok.
"Do what the Lord's servants ask you to do."
Trust in the Lord's timing.
Choose between the World and God. Do need to earn a living, but must keep eternity as a priority. The temple is a vital priority.

Not easy to follow the Lord's way. World will hate us. We were chosen out of the World. The World is going to surround us to pull us down. A few generations ago, people would not have believed our world now.

Ours is the challenge and responsibility to stay unspotted from sins of the World, and to guide our kids and families.
Ward Councils, ward mission leaders and members all need to find more people for the missionaries to teach.
We need to do genealogy and perform ordinances of deceased family to help further the spiritual progress in the Kingdom on the other side of the veil.
We must reach out now to less active members.
-listen to them/understand them
-be a friend
-help them feel God's love
-help them feel confident they can change.

To adult members married to non-member spouses:
Sometimes families must grow gradually closer to God. Be patient and love your spouse to help this process.

Members are doing too much texting--especially youth.
Technology easily becomes an addiction.
Right is still right, and wrong is still wrong, despite what society says.
Follow the warnings and counsel of leaders.
Abstain from alcohol, tobacco, drugs, pornography and gambling in all its forms.
We can each know the truth of God's plan, through prayer, scripture study and words of prophets.
We can only know the truth of a message through the witness of the Holy Ghost.
The Sacrament is the most performed ordinance in the church, and we should use greater care to renew our covenants each week and worship the Lord.

My comments:
Overall, I felt these four talks were unique, but all complementary to each other:
Let go of possessions
Repent now
How to know truth
Choose now between the World and God

It felt sobering to me, because it seemed the talks were offering me a kind of last-ditch study guide, as if some dire times are about to transpire, so get ready and brace yourself (it seemed to say to me). The states included in the SOUTHWEST REGION don't normally include Oklahoma, but this broadcast did, I believe. I have never posted notes online, and I never comment after articles or in forums; I only spent the time to type these notes because I felt this meeting's messages are especially important for this region at this time.

I guess I will go see what 1/3 of my clothes to get rid of. :)

I thoroughly enjoyed Lynn G. Robins' talk during the Regional Broadcast. It has been referenced by family, neighbors and friends in the ward and seems to be quite motivating for several individuals I know and work with. Were it possible to get a hold of him personally I would (politely) ask for a copy of it myself. A transcript of this talk would be much appreciated - something I would save and refer to from time to time.

Thank you all for sharing. I was helping with my grandkids during the conference, and realized part way through that I can't reread the talks in the Ensign. . . really appreciate the pdf, and the other notes.

Though your intentions are good, I wouldn't recommend posting the whole talk here without permission from the speaker. I would also be careful with notes. Note Handbook 2, 21.1.33 and 21.1.39. There have been quotes from general authorities pulled out of context in the past or even incorrectly recorded that have made their rounds on the internet, and the Church is careful about those things. Also, there may be counsel or blessings given specific to an area that may not apply to or be appropriate for the general Church.

It has been a long standing policy of the Church that stake conference talks by general authorities are not to be recorded (Handbook 2, 21.1.33). Although the entire North America Southwest Area of the Church was involved in the regional conference on November 8, it was still a stake conference.

Because of this, and after consideration, the Moderators have determined that the post in this Topic that included an attachment to a transcript of the talk by Elder Robbins should be removed unless proper permission is obtained to provide it to the general public. This is a Forum that is accessible by anyone worldwide and, at least for now, permission has not been given to publish the talk.

It was an excellent talk. (They all were.) But unless the Church decides to publish any of the talks from this regional conference, members should rely on their personal notes taken during this stake conference, just as they would at any other stake conference they attended.
