Satellite receivers "unauthorized" ??

#1

Post by teuscher »

We are in the North America South area (Texas), and we have been checking our satellite equipment in preparation for a regional broadcast next week. Unfortunately all 3 receivers in our 3 buildings have an error and simply says "unauthorized" (11 red blinks on error light). We called the help line, but they said that they can't help until regular business hours on Monday. We have tried turning off/on equipment, but nothing seems to work.

Anybody know what is going on? This seems to be system-wide, not just one instance. We can't broadcast conference without functional receivers.

Odds are there's a regional broadcast that you are not a part of - IOW, you're not authorized for this particular broadcast. I won't worry about it just now. Check back later and you'll probably find them all working just fine.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

If you were testing today, russellhltn is probably right.

For next Sunday, your area is authorized the broadcast. Call the global service center on Monday if the satellite system is not working again.

Have you successfully used the satellite since general conference (the Piano Guys Face2Face broadcast, for example)? If not, it may also be possible that the changes to reconfigure the satellite system may not have worked.

Another possibility if it is not working on Monday is that your building is not an authorized broadcast location. The stake president determines that. The area stake conference on Sunday involves a local segment, and the stake determines how that will be done. Only two buildings in our stake will receive the broadcast, for example.

Talk to your stake clerk and stake technology specialist on the special arrangements for this broadcast stake conference.

Call the GSC to make sure your satellite receivers are working.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are an authorized building for next week. We were simply testing our equipment to make sure everything is in working order. I am the Stake Clerk and I was working with the STS. It's odd that there was no notification of this outage/blockage today given that the guidance for the conference on Nov 8th says to test the equipment in advance. Even calls to the GSC didn't turn up anything useful. We'll check again tomorrow ... I just hate wasting time during the week to handle these things when improved communications/systems would minimize the work on the receiving side.
