Accessing the LDS account of a deceased family member
Is it possible to have the notebook and journal portion of the LDS Library "preserved" and shared after a member dies? Many times people like to keep the scriptures of deceased relatives to be able to look back on the notes and insights written within. Will something like this be allowed now that many are instead using the Library App?

I don't think there is any provision for sharing the notebook and journal of the deceased.
Elder Bednar might be opposed. My brothers who attended a YSA fireside with him learned that he has a library of copies of the scriptures that he has personally studied from - a different copy for each topic. He does not allow his decendants access because he feels that they would benefit more from their own study than by reading from his study.
Does anyone know what happens to an LDS Account after a member is recorded as deceased? The best option would be to give members control of what will happen while they are still in mortality.

Good question. Being a member isn't a requirement for the Notes and Scriptures. Would the account revert to non-member status or be closed completely? Another follow-up question - how long can LDS Accounts remain inactive before they are purged?robartsd wrote:Does anyone know what happens to an LDS Account after a member is recorded as deceased?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Yes. The LDS Account sign in goes away. There is no longer any access to that member's account.robartsd wrote:Does anyone know what happens to an LDS Account after a member is recorded as deceased?

This has been asked previously in the Notes and Journal forum. I don't believe the church has ever made an official comment on what happens to this data when someone dies, so assume it's deleted. Even if it's saved, I wouldn't expect easy access to the information. You would probably need a subpoena (and reason to have one) to get any response from the church on this.

Access to deceased individuals' LDS Accounts cannot be obtained.
