How to enter Emergency Communications Specialist calling
Hey there, I'm my ward's membership clerk, and I was also just called to be an Emergency Communications Specialist for my ward. I know that this calling is endorsed by the Church, and thus shouldn't need to be added as a custom calling on the computer... yet it doesn't seem to appear in the existing list of potential callings.
If I create it as a custom calling, which organization should I put it under?
Thanks for any assistance,
Ryan Porter

Re: How to enter Emergency Communications Specialist calling
"Standard callings" (standard positions) in Leader and Clerk Resources are only the callings referenced in the Handbook – which isn't all of the callings that could exist in a ward. There are many possible callings that a bishopric and ward council could discuss having in a ward that aren't standard callings, but may be needed depending on the circumstances or availability of ward members. This gives the bishopric flexibility in how they organize their ward and how specialized various members' responsibilities become.
I would create a custom calling and put it under "Employment and Welfare."

Re: How to enter Emergency Communications Specialist calling
While not listed in in the Handbook (that I can find), it is mentioned on the page Guidelines for Emergency Communications, so I'd think that's a good argument for it being a standard position.

Thanks, sbradshaw, for the insight. And I agree with russellhltn that it should be a standard calling. Especially considering it's subject.
I'll create the custom calling and put it in the Employment and Welfare category, that's what I was thinking of doing before as well.
Thanks again!

You could also submit feedback using the link on the lower right side of Leader and Clerk Resources – use the LDS.org page that russellhltn referenced to show that it should be a standard calling. While they don't always respond, we've been told that all feedback that goes through there is reviewed by those who are able to make those kinds of decisions. Some callings, for example, the recent addition of Assistant Ward Mission Leader (which is referenced in the Handbook), were added in response to user feedback.

With reference to Assistant Ward Mission Leader, is this a Standard Calling now? I can't find it listed under Ward Missionaries in LCR. I know I should start another thread on this, but I'm having finger trouble at the moment.sbradshaw wrote:You could also submit feedback using the link on the lower right side of Leader and Clerk Resources – use the LDS.org page that russellhltn referenced to show that it should be a standard calling. I thought so. Here is the related notice from May:

But I don't have ward-level callings access, so I can't verify.

On reading that list of changes, it would seem that several of those proposals haven't been implemented, on LCR at least, as there is no sign of the Assistant Ward Mission Leader calling. The Family History Leader, in CDOL, in one of our Wards still shows up under that title. Unless CDOL doesn't automatically change the calling name.sbradshaw wrote:I thought so. Re: How to enter Emergency Communications Specialist calling
We've added the position type of Assistant Ward Mission Leader, but not allowed them in wards yet. The idea is to allow other systems (LCR for example) to give rights to those callings before we turn them on. Unfortunately the announcement went out a bit prematurely.

Many thanks Ryan for the clarification. Thought that I was going even more senile.
