Satellite projecting problems

#1

Post by Reece1957 »

My Dear Brethern, setting up for General Conference I experienced horizontal lines in the video that was projected on the big sreen. The monitor attached to the receiver didn't display these lines. When the Chapel sound was increased the lines projected on the big screen got worse and we had to use a television to follow the conference. Any advise is welcome....

I suspect a grounding problem. You might try using a VCR to connect the projector to the rf feed instead of using the video jack.

Dear Russell, Thank you so much for answering to my question, in the follow up we went for life streaming and again we enjoyed a great conference.. Laptop to projector... Great to have technology at hand... Asked for a evaluation of the system. You are right about grounding, the problem started after we had a building extention..

To whom it may concern,

We had a Stake Conference here in Victorville, CA .. We used the Internet services through Verizon to transmit the Conference (audio & video) from the Stake Center to outlets in Phelan Ward,
Barstow Ward, and Mojave Ward, etc. since our stake center cannot hold beyond 500 members. We had more than 1000 attending.. Our Internet service failed again .. both sound and visual connection... Is it possible somehow that the Stake Center is able to transmit through the Satellite system? We use the Satellite system for General Conference, Temple Dedications, Training, etc.
I wish the system is available for Stake Conferences... Thanks for listening...

No. The equipment you have is not capable of that. You'd have to hire a company that has the equipment and expertise. (Given the possibility of really screwing things up for other users, they're pretty careful about who they allow to transmit on the system.)

Needless to say, you're better off improving the stake center's internet connection. (I know, that might be asking to move mountains - I have issues with a couple of wards were "you can't get there from here".)

About the only simple option you have if the Internet service fails is to use phone lines to transmit the audio portion of the conference.

Did the Internet service actually fail, or were there other problems related to available bandwidth/speed that caused the problem? Were they at the originating stake center, so that the broadcast could not be transmitted, or were they at the receiving meetinghouses?

You may wish to sit down with your stake technology specialist and review everything about the broadcast setup, from start to finish, to determine where the problem actually occurred.

And if it was a total Internet service provider failure, begin working now with your Facilities Management group to get it resolved before the next stake conference.

Did you turn off WiFi at all locations? What web streaming service did you use? The old one, new one, PVC or something else?
