Can printers be donated to Wards?

Post by TravisGraham »

We have an old HP Laserjet 1200 series printer in our clerk office. Can members, non-members or businesses donate a newer laser printer?

thanks

It looks to be open to interpretation. Most of the policy is for computers. Note that the FM group is responsible for the printer, but unlike the computers, I'm not aware of any time frame for routine replacement of functioning devices.

I do see where wards and stakes are responsible for equipment not provided by FM, so you'll be on the hook for any repairs. There's also no guarantee that the software will function properly with non-standard printers.

If your LJ1200 is malfunctioning, do talk with the Stake Technology Specialist about getting it replaced.

It's also important to point out that even if printers are deemed OK to accept, you are not allowed to solicit donations for items like this.

I seem to remember tripping over a 5 year replacement policy for clerks computers and printers but I have no idea where to find it now.

Five years is what it said for computers at one time. But now it seems to be computers "are repaired, upgraded, and replaced by the FM group in compliance with MFD standard plans." If only we knew what those plans are. But there is no hint of replacement plan for printers.

Administrative clerk computers, yes, with the addition that any computer running XP should have been replaced by last month.

Printers run until they break. Then FM evaluates the repair cost versus a new printer cost and moves ahead accordingly. As an example around here, if I were to mention as STS that an HP 1200 was having problems, a new printer would show up within a week.
