LDS Church Member Survey-email Bogus or Legitimate?

#1

Post by gsgentry »

I just received the following email:

Subject :LDS Church Member Survey

Dear Brother Gentry:

Under the direction of the Brethren, the Research Information Division of the Correlation Department at Church headquarters conducts surveys of Church leaders and members several times a year. If you have questions about the legitimacy of this survey, please see Handbook 2 section 21.1.35.

Your name was selected at random to receive this invitation to participate in a series of approximately 5-8 Internet-based surveys over the course of the next 18 months. These surveys will address a variety of topics. The information gathered will assist those at Church headquarters in their work.

The answers you provide will be kept completely confidential, and will be combined with those of other respondents from throughout the United States. If you are willing to participate, we invite you respond to an initial survey, preferably within the next THREE DAYS after receiving this letter. If that is not possible, the survey will remain open until September 15, 2015.

To begin the survey on the Internet:

1. Click on the following link: Click here to start the survey

2. Or copy the following URL into your browser address bar: https://lds.qualtrics.com/#################################

3. Enter the following Access Code: ######

Enter the Access Code exactly as shown above, with capital letters on each end. This first survey should take about 20-25 minutes to complete. If you do not have a computer, access to the Internet, or would rather not participate in the survey or are serving a mission, please disregard this request knowing we appreciate your consideration.

If you have any questions regarding this letter or this project, please call Brother Robert Balter at the Research Information Division at Church headquarters at 801-240-2727 or 1-800-453-3860, ext. 22727. Thank you for your willingness to assist us in this work.

To opt out of this survey, click this link:

Sincerely,

Douglas B. Koller
Director Research Information Division"

Probably valid. The contact information given is the same as the one in the Handbook. Going to that website triggers the LDS Single-sign on.

But if you have doubts, I'd call that number.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

It's real. That is the real Church department authorized to conduct these types of surveys. Those are real Church phone numbers. You may call the number to confirm, of course. But yes, it is real.
