Institute Instructor Required Password Change

#1

Post by lajackson »

One of our stake Institute instructors mentioned to me today that he is required to change his LDS Account password regularly. He shouldn't have to do that. He is in a stake calling. He is not a Church employee. Where should he go to get that fixed?

You can try and contact the usual people at GSD, but I have a feeling that password expiration is based on what they have access to rather than employment status.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

The LDS Account password change requirement is related to the fact that someone has been added to the "Workforce"; that may happen because a person is a Church employee, but many service missionaries and others serving in other callings that require access to certain systems will also lead to someone being added to the Workforce.

Anyone can see if they are in the Workforce by logging in to their LDS Account settings (ldsaccount.lds.org). If they see a "Workforce" option on the left hand side (in addition to the usual "Personal Information", "Contact Settings", "Email Subscriptions", "Membership", and "Security Settings") then they are considered to be in the Workforce and will have password change requirements.

Thanks. We'll check the LDS Account menus, and then go back to the CES folks and see if they did it for some reason. This has not happened to any of the other Institute teachers in our stake.

All church employees, missionaries, volunteers, (etc.) have workforce-enable LDS Accounts. When an individual's account is provisioned by Account Management (a process in which we set up their LDS Account with this workforce information) that individual's account is placed within the General Employee Password Policy, which states, that for security purposes, the LDS Account password will be required to be reset every six months. If the password isn't reset within the conclusion of the six months, the LDS Account is automatically locked, in which the individual will need to contact support to unlock the account. Note: the e-mail address associated with the LDS Account will send out password-change notifications two weeks prior to the password expiration. Because seminary instructors are workforce enabled (provisioned), they, too, will need to follow this password policy. Until they are released from their calling (which is reflected on their LDS Account) and their workforce is removed, they will reset their password every six months.

When an LDS Account is provisioned, an e-mail should be sent to the individual informing them of this information. As long as the primary e-mail address is up-to-date on the LDS Account, this e-mail will be received; if not, the recipient may not receive the notification (which is why we advise to have individuals update their LDS Account information at ldsaccount.lds.org to verify their information is correct).
