What is a Nonmember?

#1

Post by GStringham »

The MLS 3.8.1 release notes state the following:
In support of the Church’s data privacy policy, removed the ability to create non-member records. Please note that this does not take away the ability to record the marriage of a member to a non-member spouse.
It infers that it is talking about nonmember spouses. Will existing records of nonmember spouses be deleted?

What about other nonmembers? Will existing records be deleted of someone blessed as a baby, but never baptized, and is now 18 or older? What about unbaptized children of record ages 9-17? What about those who are unaccountable and never baptized?

Good question. But as MLS functions move to LCR, any non-member records will be left behind. (MLS Non-member records never leave the MLS system. LCR doesn't support creating non-member records. So, at this time there are NO non-member records in LCR.) So even if not deleted from MLS, in practical terms they will fade away with time.

Those mostly fall into the classification of "Child of Record". There's been no indication of any change there. None would be classified as "Non-Member" even if they are unbaptized and over the age of 8. "Child of Record" entries are in LCR.

MLS allowed the creation of a non-member record. LCR does not. A non-member spouse can still be recorded on the record of a member spouse, but there no longer will be a separate non-member record..

In each of these instances, a formal membership record was created and they will continue to exist in LCR. When a member who was never baptized turns 18, there is a procedure in Handbook 1 that the bishop and stake president may follow to cancel the record. If they do not follow that procedure, the record remains.

The records of those who are unaccountable and never baptized are not removed. They will remain in LCR.
