Church Service missionaries

#1

Post by mfmohlma »

Where is the calling of Church Service Missionary entered? We have a couple in our ward that have been called to lead our local addiction group, but they show up as "not having a calling". As a ward clerk, I don't see an appropriate entry in the Missionary category (I have Ward Mission Leader, Ward Missionary, and Missionary - Full Time.) My stake clerk is similarly baffled. Since Handbook 1 (section 4.12) indicates there is some involvement from church headquarters, should/can this calling be entered by the Missionary Department?

The Welfare Department has indicated they would like the Ward/Stake Welfare Specialist calling to be used for this.

But Church Service Missionaries can be serving different departments than just the Welfare Department. (I'm not sure addiction recovery falls under Welfare, but it might.)

Absolutely. I'm sorry for being unclear. I was specifically referencing the couple you mentioned who are leading the addiction group. I don't have an overall answer for you - only for this situation.

Ha, and there it is: Other Callings -> Employment and Welfare -> Addiction Recovery Worker. Thank you!

(It would be nice if we could search on callings like we can search on names. I never would have found this one. Is there an exploded hierarchy list somewhere?)

Organizations -> Callings by Organization. Then on the right there is the option to expand all.

There is now the option to hide vacant callings that you don't intend to use, so you might have to add that to the filter.

Thanks, I wouldn't have initially thought to do that (especially to look for a 'vacant' calling). It's a good tip.

Was this a custom calling already existing in your Stake?

I don't have anything related to Addiction Recovery showing in LCR for us; so I created a Custom Calling under Employment and Welfare.

No. It was there as jonesrk said. Maybe he can check your ward in the morning to see if something strange is going on.
