New Stationery Question

#1

Post by Hilohi »

When a new bishop is called should new stationery be ordered to reflect his name and address (as opposed to using the old stationery and just covering the old bishop's name and address with a label with the new bishop's name and address)? I could have sworn that I read that that was the Church's guideline a few years ago, but I can't seem to find where I read that now.

New stationery should be ordered. Reusing older stuff with labels looks a bit less professional.

New stationary should be ordered. The labels are typically a quick fix while waiting for the stationary.

In some cases, the labels are used to "use up" the old tithing envelopes.

Many years ago the Church would print labels for tithing envelopes for a new bishop, until they decided it was cheaper just to print the envelopes rather than the labels.

And for a while they barcoded the envelope, which meant you couldn't just put a label over the address.

Expense may be part if it, but I think the lead time on printing in the old days was a factor too. The labels could be run off by a secretary and in the mail in a couple of days. Printing could take a little longer and may have involved a slower shipping method. But technology moves on and printing became a lot more responsive.

So how long from when a new Bishop's info appears in CDOL until it shows up on LDS Catalog? I assume this is automated or should I email in to have it changed? Want to order a new box of tithing envelopes... Thanks

I guess I can answer my own question: it shows up now. So in my case it was less than 12 hours.

I guess it's good to clarify that stationary with the unit name is available only in English. For most countries, it is possible to order only stationary with the church logo (and nothing else on it).
