How do I remove an email address from stake mailing list

#1

Post by dheilner »

We as a stake set new goals for 2015 and sent out an email to all stake members via lds.org. One person responded and said he was not in our stake, was in another state, and is not a member. He strongly wants to be removed from all future emails. I know his email address, but can't find it anywhere on lds.org, or in the stake custom report in MLS. Is there any way I can remove this person from our stake email list?

Thank you!

How did you send the email? What on-line tool did you use to do it?

Any idea where that person is now? Things might play out differently if they are in "Address Unknown".
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Thanks for the response, I actually am trying to track down the answer for the stake executive secretary who is the one who sent out the email blast. I am not sure how he sent the email to all the stake, but assume it was through lds.org. Isn't there a way to send an email blast to the stake using the directory?

The person is not a member and lives in another part of the US. I can't find their email address anywhere in the stake MLS, and so have no idea why they would be included in an email blast.

May I ask what you mean by Address Unknown?

Thank you

The directory can be used to send to add adults in a ward, but I don't see how to do that at the stake level. There are different tools used to send emails. We need to know which one because each has it's own quirks. And different individuals are responsible for different tools.

It's possible that one of those emails is forwarded - perhaps incorrectly. It's also possible that a particular email doesn't exist, but the receiving email system forwarded to another that was similar. And in some cases different domains resolve to the same email system. For example, "xyz@aol.com" and "xyz@cs.com" end up in the same place. So it's possible that person's email is nowhere in any church system.

Ultimately, to track it down, it would be helpful to know the email address that got it and the email headers from the email that person received. That may allow us to know what email address caused it to end up in their email box.

It's where membership records are sent when the member can no longer be located. It's not really in your stake, but it's also not really in a new stake either. It can be a limbo state.

You could try refreshing the data in the stake MLS to make sure you pull all of the most recent contact information for members from online; then search for the email address.
