Official Communication Library

#1

Post by ddickson-p40 »

I've been searching the forum trying to find out more information on the Official Communication Library (OCL) located at https://apps.lds.org/letters. As a bishopric member, I sometimes need to refer back to something that's been read over the pulpit or that we've discussed in bishopric meeting. Invariably, it either takes forever to find the original letter or we never do find it. I've tried to enter my credentials for my LUWS, but apparently I'm not authorized to access the site with those credentials. Does anyone know who is authorized and/or how to go about getting a login? Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere in the forum.

I'm fairly confident that my stake president was informed that he would be the only member of our stake who can access the OCL. Neither his counselors nor any bishops can access it.

I do not know why so few people can see the OCL. I do know that many official communications go to stake presidents and higher, and not to bishops; perhaps the security is tight to avoid the difficulty of sorting out which users could see what letters. But that is just speculation on my part.

However, since long before the OCL existed, our stake has kept a file of all official letters. Whenever a letter arrives, the stake president gives me or the stake clerk the letter to file (and often make copies for stake presidency counselors or others who need the information). A few years ago I created an electronic index of the letters so we could search by title or summary for any letters.

Occasionally wards ask us for a copy of a letter from the past that they cannot locate, and we are happy to provide a copy. Perhaps your stake or one of your sister wards has such a file and could help you out with filling in the gaps in your ward's file.
