Difference between "unmapped" and "unverified"

#1

Post by aclawson »

In the stake we have > 2,000 "unverified" pushpins showing up on maps.lds.org, but there are also another 200ish households that have valid addresses that are designated as "unmapped". What determines if an address is unmapped vs unverified, and how can we correct that?

As for members who are either using a PO Box as their address or for whom we do not have a complete mailing address, these members should be represented on the maps in some fashion so when unit boundary changes are made accurate membership numbers will be calculated within the application - maybe map them to the meetinghouse or the geographic center of the ward?

"Unmapped" means that the LDS Maps system was not able to use the address to determine a location. "Unverified" means that the system determined a location based on the address, but no one has reviewed the location of the marker to make sure it is on the actual house.

The correction is essentially the same process either way -- once a clerk has used LDS Maps to put the marker on the house location, the location has been verified (which corrects either "unverified" or "unmapped").

PO Box addresses will tend to start out as unmapped, but you can verify their location to wherever makes sense. You could manually put their marker right on their actual home, or you could put it on the meetinghouse. That decisions would be based on privacy concerns, consultation with the member and the bishop, and consideration of the amount of work involved for clerks.

Is there a way to force a recalculate? Some of the addresses are correct but are being mapped hundreds or thousands of miles away for an unknown reason. Maybe a refresh function? Or just re-enter the same addresses that are already there and hope that the map is corrected?

Specifically, it seems that addresses that include an apartment/unit number are the ones that are mapping incorrectly.

I'm not sure if it's still true, but at one time the map only mapped the move-in address. Any address changes within the ward were ignored.

One of the members appears to be mapping to his old address even though his new address is in the system. The other one that is really off has the correct address where they've always been but their pushpin is about 3,000 miles away from where they have been living for years.

Editing the address in LCR will force a recalculation of the marker location (I believe that was first noted here), and put the household back into an "unverified" state (or an "unmapped" state if the system can't determine a location from the updated address).

Who can edit an address directly in lds.org - bishops, the member, clerks? Assistant clerks, membership clerks?

The bishop, the clerk, membership clerks, and assistant clerks. Not financial clerks and not the member. I think bishop counselors and executive secretary can as well but it's possible that has changed. You can check the Access Table on LCR if you have access to it.

Regardless of whether a household has been verified, member verified, or unverified, the household location marker can be moved as many times as needed to get the marker in the correct position. I have moved household location markers from one state to another as well as some merely a few feet. Changing the address on LCR is not necessary if that address is correct. However, if it is not correct, then by all means correct it and see what the system does to place the household marker.

An unmapped household will have to have a valid address for the system to place a marker.

I am an assistant clerk so I'm not certain that the system looks the same to me as it does for the general membership - what are the steps that somebody takes to verify their own address?
