Stake PFR Can't Access FIR

#1

Post by jeromer7 »

About a month ago we changed PFRs. I used the Stake MLS to remove the prior PFR and enter the new individual. I verified it was a Standard Calling. The next day I checked CDOL and the new individual was listed in Show All Positions > Facilities as the Stake Physical Facilities Representative and let him know. He reported back that after signing in to LDS.org, Facility Issue Reporting was not listed on the Tools pull-down list, but Technology Manager now appeared.

Knowing there's been trouble in the past when only removing and adding a name in a calling, I completely removed the calling in MLS, did a S/R and entered the Standard Calling again with the new individual. I asked him to try again. What I don't remember now, is if I did that all in the same session or if I waited between actions for the PFR to be removed from CDOL.

I then got distracted with other matters and it wasn't until last Thursday that I thought to see if he could get to FIR. He signed in to LDS.org and like before Facility Issue Reporting isn't on the Tools menu. The interesting thing though, is that during the past few weeks he's gotten some automated email notices of FIR issues waiting for his review. This indicates that FIR recognizes him as the PFR, but somehow a link to add that tool link to the Tools pull-down menu isn't being made.

I decided to post here in case someone has experienced this or a similar issue.

We had a similar problem when we first called our SPFR, in November 2010. We found that by giving him the additional calling of Stake Building Representative, this enabled him to access FIR.

As he now had access, we left it at that!

Note that Stake Building Specialist is a default stake calendar administrator. So that may not be the preferred solution.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

You said it's not on the tools menu, but you didn't say he couldn't access it by going to lds.org/fir. Not appearing on the tools menu could be a tools menu issue and a completely different problem than unable to access.

I know and appreciate that, but at the time (Just checked up on the date and it was late 2012 that FIR came in to use) this was the only way we could give him access to FIR. Stake Building Specialist wasn't on the FIR access list then, nor does it appear to be now, but it made it work for our SPFR.

I also had FIR access problems around same the time because of my dual callings of Ward Clerk & STS. The programmers eventually sorted that out, but at the time it was extremely frustrating. If you recall this was in the early days of FIR, so bugs were being thrown up on a regular basis. Access, with dual callings, was one of them!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, adding the additional calling fixed his access problem. Since he isn't particularly 'tech savvy', I'm loathe to play around removing and adding callings, especially as he is able to access FIR now without problem.
