Family leaving ward, missionary wants to remain

#1

Post by bigguy5257 »

I recently had a family move in and requested their missionary son remain in their previous ward so he can receive the support of that ward. They want to use their previous address on the missionary's record though no one from the family lives there. The bishops of both wards appear to agree to this arrangement.
Is there a way to record this arrangement in the membership record for this missionary?

That really shouldn't be needed. The location of the membership record and the financially responsible ward do not have to be the same ward. In fact, the financially responsible ward stays the same until and unless the new ward calls LUS and takes responsibility. So you should be able move the membership record with the family but let the financial responsibility remain unchanged.

As far as the membership records go, the prior ward could make the missionary his own household and then send the rest of the family to the new ward. But I'm not sure why they would do that unless the missionary plans to return to that place rather than re-join his family.

As far as support, as mentioned, the finances don't automatically follow, and any ward can write to any missionary. Just be sure the family sends any support payments to the old ward and not to the new one.
