stake YW list

#1

Post by jworth1 »

Is there a way to export the stake YW list as an Excel file instead of a pdf file?

I have tried the online converters and all the data doesn't line up in the correct columns.

Thanks

I've had very good results by simply doing the following:
  1. In LCR, go to the Membership > Member List
  2. Apply whatever filters you want
  3. Sort however you want by clicking on the appropriate column header
  4. In the browser, select the entire table (including column headers), then copy to clipboard (Ctrl+C on Windows)
  5. In Excel (or another spreadsheet), go to a blank sheet and then do Paste Special and choose Text
  6. Adjust column widths and formatting as desired

I will try that but it used to be that you could export files in .xls format. Most leaders like to have that option to resort that data. So, will that be an option also off of lds.org like the option in MLS?

I am wondering if you need to use Text to Columns to separate the pasted data into separate columns. When I paste the data, it all goes into a single column.

When I tried to convert the pdf file to xls online, some of the data didn't get put in the right columns so that didn't work for me at all.

Not sure what you mean "text to columns"...

Once a month, I simply export all of the MLS data (created in a custom report) to Excel. I spruce up the headings a bit, and copy in some custom formulas to give some more data (e.g., is temple recommend expired, are they prospective elders, and a few others). Then when I get requests from auxiliaries and others, I can super easily create a custom report that I can send to them in Excel.

Would you be willing to share that custom report criteria?

Sure. I don't set any criteria, so that it grabs everyone. Then you can simply select all of the information, but I select just the following (in this order):

Preferred name
Ward/Branch
Move In Date
Record Number
Sex
Birth Date
(I insert a column in Excel that converts the birth date to age based on the current date)
Baptism Date
Confirmation Date
(I insert a custom column in Excel that says if they are a Man, Woman, Infant, Child, Priest age, Teacher age, Deacon age, Laurel age, Mia-Maid age, or beehive age)
Is Convert
Priesthood Office
Ordination Date
Ordained By
(I insert a custom column in Excel that says if they are a prospective elder)
Is Endowed
Endowment Date
Temple Recommend Expiration Date
(I insert a custom column in Excel that determines if their recommend is current)
Is Returned Missionary
Mission Language
Mission Country
Sealing to Parents
Is Married
Spouse Name
Marriage Date
Is Sealed to Spouse
Sealing to Spouse Date
Is Sealed to Prior Spouse
Is Widowed
Has Children
Household Position
Head of House and Spouse
Home Teachers
Birthplace
Birth Country
Is Accountable
Contact E-Mail
Contact Phone Number
Address Street 1
Address Street 2
Address - City
Address - State
Address - Postal Code
Stake Geo Code
Is Registered for Seminary/Institute
Callings with Date Sustained

Are you talking about Leader and Clerk Resources? I don't recall that ever being an option for membership lists.

If you follow my steps, you end up with an excel file that allows for resorting, filtering, formatting, etc.

I have no idea. You can certainly request it by using the Feedback link.

But personally, I find my copy/paste technique to be just as easy as an export would be. In just a few seconds, I have a spreadsheet.

How will you achieve this once MLS is retired?
