Checking firewall filtering

#1

Post by BarryHill »

What is the prescribed method of checking proper filtering on the Ward Internet? I thought youtube.com and ESPN were filtered but I can get both. Gambling.com is filtered.

I got some pretty revealing clip thumbnails of swim suits on YouTube. As the bishop I would really like to know our meeting house filtering is working properly.

Thanks for the help on this important matter.

Type in filter.lds.org. Don't trust bookmarks. You may have somewhat more permissions if there is a FHC or church employee that shares your Internet. Then again, you could have a outdated firewall.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

We do have a FHC.

When I type in filter.lds.ord I get a large "X". I guess that means it is working?

No, that means it's NOT working. You would see a large check mark if it were working.

[I'm sure you mean .org, and not .ord]

check tm.lds.org - IIRC it also has a status there...

One of the stake presidents in our area demanded that our FM remove all wireless access points from his stake center, and install wired connections in certain rooms. His justification was that members could access pornography and other inappropriate material via Google images, which is not filtered.

that seems like a bit of an over-reaction to me... Did you actually try to troubleshoot the filtering, etc.. I'm sure the Church is very sensitive to that issue.

Hey, it isn't my stake! But I will be interested to see what his successor does about it.

Now the filter is working so maybe it just hiccuped. I will keep a check on it.

Thanks.
